Good luck, and we hope to see you soon!

As a volunteer choir, Symphony Chorus of New Orleans draws singers from all over the region. If the idea of singing choral masterpieces with a professional symphony orchestra appeals to you, please call us for an audition.

The chorus consists of singers at all levels -- from professionals to amateurs. We sing because we love what we sing! And rehearsing and performance give us an opportunity to know great music "from the inside" that passive listening doesn't often provide.

Rehearsals

The Chorus rehearses weekly at Loyola University on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with extra concert rehearsals the week of performance.

If you have previous choral experience, if you've sung in high school or college, or if you sing now, give us a try. Meet new friends, share your love of music, and enjoy the rich experience of choral performance.

Auditions

We hold auditions by appointment during the summer, early September, and January. Specific dates may be listed on the left. During the audition, music director Steven Edwards will evaluate vocal range and quality, pitch memory, and music-reading skills. Singers should prepare an aria, art song, or show tune. An accompanist will be provided.

Finally, singers should fill out the New Singer Information form and prepare the excerpt from Handel's Messiah, "And He shall purify", both available by clicking on their respective links. You will need Adobe Acrobat reader program. To download it, click here. Bring the filled-out form and the Messiah excerpt to the audition.
