SCNO singers range in age from 18 – 88. They vary in vocal and musical ability. Some have professional, solo quality voices. Many do not. Most have choral experience and read music. All of our singers are expected to learn and prepare music outside of rehearsals. All of our singers are expected to sing accurately and expressively in rehearsal and performance to support the vision, mission, and values of the chorus. Auditions for membership in Symphony Chorus are scheduled throughout the season by appointment.
Auditions take approximately ten minutes and consist of directed vocalization to determine range and quality, performance of an aria, art-song, or show-tune of your choice (accompanist is provided), performance of a prepared excerpt from Handel’s Messiah, a pitch memory test, and evaluation of music reading skills.
To request an audition, complete and submit the online Audition Form. You will be contacted to discuss your application and to schedule your audition. If you have additional questions, you may email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Download and prepare your voice part for “And He Shall Purify” from Messiah. When the time comes for your audition, please bring your copy of “And He Shall Purify” along with the sheet music for your vocal solo.
Members of Symphony Chorus of New Orleans attend rehearsals once a week, usually on Tuesdays from 7 – 9PM. Closer to performances, there are more rehearsals, usually one or two. There is a fee to join SCNO of $50 for the season which helps to pay the costs of insurance, salaries and other things it takes to run SCNO.
